Idiomind
Save the words, sentences, and texts you come across. Organize them into topics, keep their context, and return to them to learn and practice.
How it works
- Capture. Save a useful word, phrase, or sentence in seconds.
- Understand. Add a translation, pronunciation, image, or note about when to use it.
- Practice. Review your topics over time and work on the language you are learning.
- Track. Keep track of what you have learned and what you are still learning. Spaced repetition brings topics back for review as they progress through different stages.
Build your Topics
A topic is a specific subject you want to learn. It can be about travel, work, a movie, a book, an everyday situation, or any other context that interests you.
Each topic contains notes. A note can be a word or a sentence, together with its translation and other elements such as examples, definitions, audio, images, or annotations.
Practice them
There are five ways to practice: flashcards, multiple choice, pronunciation recognition, image recognition, and listen-and-write.
You can practice an entire topic or work in smaller rounds, focusing on a limited number of notes before moving on.
Play them
You can also play the contents of a topic. You can choose specific words, sentences, or notes, repeat them, add pauses, and focus on the ones you find more difficult.
On the desktop, the item being played can appear in system notifications along with its translation.
Keep track
Topics have a progress system based on spaced repetition. Each note can be marked as learned or as something you are still learning, and the system uses this information together with your practice activity to track your progress.
As a topic progresses, it moves through different stages of learning and returns for review when the time is right.
Built with Bash
The Linux version of Idiomind is built entirely with Bash scripts and native Linux utilities, with YAD providing its graphical dialogs and interface elements. Learn about the technical architecture.

Install / Download
Install on Ubuntu or Debian
On Ubuntu or another Debian-based distribution, open Terminal and run these commands one at a time. Enter your administrator password if prompted; no characters will appear while you type it.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:robinpalat/idiomind
sudo apt-get update
